With Queen Daenerys freeing all the slaves, you finally felt like you could do anything. You were no longer under the thumb of the masters. Instead, you were your own master and you could do pretty much as you pleased. You didn't have to wear those revealing dresses any longer. You didn't have to be helpless anymore. You could finally use your sword again and protect yourself. That was how you met a very unexpected friend.

You were in a secluded area, thinking no one was around. You didn't like being disturbed while you were working on your sword skills. You didn't realize that someone had stumbled upon your safe haven. No else you were acquainted with knew how to use a sword. Slaves weren't permitted. But you hadn't always been a slave. You are started learning before the masters took over Meereen.

Slicing your sword through the air, you felt a sense of peace and freedom that was almost foreign now. It calmed you. At least until you heard his voice. "The air makes poor opponent." You whirled around with your sword raised. He was watching you with a curious expression. You glanced at his armor and recognized him as one of the Unsullied that Queen Daenerys had brought with her.

You cleared your throat and lowered your sword. "Yes, well. For the moment, it is the only opponent I have," you replied in Valyrian. Your visitor's brows drew together. "Doesn't fight back. Just...hangs there." You laughed softly. "I suppose it does. Do you speak the Common Tongue?" Valyrian wasn't your native tongue and speaking in it hurt your head after a while. He nodded.

"Some. Missandei of Naath, she teaches I." You smiled. "Teaches 'me'," you corrected gently. He repeated, testing the words out on his tongue. You took a moment to look him over. His stance was rigid, one hand holding his weapon like it was his lifeline. You knew how the Unsullied were treated before Daenerys, so it probably was just that. A lifeline. Something safe and familiar. He looked ready to fight if necessary, but his eyes didn't regard you with any animosity. Only curiosity.

"What is your name?" you asked him. "This one is called Grey Worm. What do they call you?" You told him your name before asking, "Why are you hear, Grey Worm?" He looked confused for a moment, but then he realized you meant why was in there in that particular place. "Was headed back to Great Pyramid when I saw you. Training. Trying to hit the air."

You laughed again, this time more loudly. "Jokes. I didn't know the Unsullied could make jokes." Grey Worm looked confused again. "What is a joke?" You shook your head. "Never mind. Do you have some time to train? It would be nice to have an opponent that isn't the air." Grey Worm glanced around and back up to the Pyramid in the distance. "Can't now. Perhaps," he paused as he tried to find the right word in the Common Tongue, "Tomorrow. I shall bring Missandei of Naath." You agreed and let Grey Worm go on his way, excited for the possibility of having someone to spar with.

True to his word, Grey Worm returned at the same time the next day. This time, he had a lovely young woman with him. She bestowed a smile on you that you gladly returned. "Grey Worm told me about you," she said by way of greeting, "I am Missandei." You introduced yourself. "I hope you don't mind Grey Worm bringing me along. He is still not used to a world outside of slavery and his Unsullied upbringing." You nodded. "Of course not. It will be nice to have another woman around."

You turned to Grey Worm. "Shall we begin?" Without a word, Grey Worm lunged, catching you off guard. You almost hit the dirt. Quickly shaking off your surprise and ignoring Missandei's giggle, you prepared to defend yourself. It was already obvious that Grey Worm was not going to take it easy on you and you didn't mind that. It would help you grow stronger.

The two of you sparred until the sun had nearly set. You probably would have continued, but Missandei reluctantly had to interrupt. "Forgive me, but we must return to Khaleesi." You smiled at her from you place on the ground where Grey Worm had just knocked you to. "Of course. Perhaps we can do this again soon. I quite enjoyed it." You looked to Grey Worm.

"As did m-I." Your grin widened. "Grey Worm, I think this is the start of a lovely friendship." Grey Worm watched as you got up from the ground. "Friendship?" Missandei translated to Valyrian so he would understand. "Yes...unless you don't want friendship." Grey Worm'slips almost upturned into a smile. "It would be nice to have friends." You nodded. "Good. Then we are friends." You swore you saw a look of amusement pass over Grey Worm's features. "Goodnight, friend," he said before turning on his heel and heading away. Missandei followed, leaving you shaking your head fondly at your newfound friendships.

(Grey Worm is more difficult to write than I expected.)
