You never thought you'd be in this position. Betrothed to a Lannister. Tywin Lannister had somehow managed to force his eldest son, Jaime, to leave the Kingsguard. That meant that he was now heir to Casterly Rock. As such, Tywin thought it best to find a bride for his son. That's where you came in.

When your parents first informed you of the betrothal, you threw a fit. You fought tooth and nail to avoid marriage to Jaime Lannister. It wasn't anything against Jaime himself, as you'd never met him before, but your experiences had taught you that Lannisters couldn't be trusted. However, you would soon meet your future husband and your outlook on the marriage would change drastically.

"Stand up straight, dear," your mother scolded gently and you fought the urge to roll your eyes. The betrothal was already set in stone, so why bother trying to impress Tywin and Jaime? Still, you did as you were expected to do and tried to smile. You were going to have to get used to the idea of marrying a Lannister anyway.

They pulled their horses to a stop and dismounted before making their way over to you. Tywin walked straight, like any other nobleman, but it was the younger man behind him that caught your attention. He truly was as handsome as everyone said. Golden-haired, piercing green eyes, chiseled jaw line that was dotted with stubble. He regarded you with an expression that was somewhere between nonchalance and intrigue.

"Lord Tywin. Lord Jaime," you greeted with a curtsy. Your eyes never left the younger Lannister. "My lady," he said. "Come! Let's get you out of the cold!" your father caused you to look away from Jaime. You smiled at him before turning to walk back. Before taking a step, your mother narrowed her eyes, silently telling you what to do. You offered your arm to Jaime. "Would you allow me to give you the tour, Lord Jaime?" Jaime looked to his father for a brief moment before he nodded and took your arm in his.

*time skip*

The Lannisters remained in your home for several weeks and over that time, your reluctance toward marrying Jaime hadn't really lessened, but you had grown closer to him. He really wasn't a bad guy. Kind of closed off, but not bad. He could be a very caring guy, but you didn't love him. Or you thought you didn't. Turns out you were wrong.

You were walking through the market outside your castle when it happened. A group of beggars and vagabonds jumped out, two taking you by the arms and the others attacking Jaime. "Let me go!" you screeched, fighting them off as best you could. You met Jaime's eyes and you realized that you were scared. You were scared they were going to kill him. The very thought made your heart clench in your chest.

You didn't need to worry. Jaime fought off his attackers with skills only a former knight could have. Then, he turned to your captors and pointed his blade at them. "Let the lady go or I will split you from navel to chin without a second thought." The two men dropped your arms and ran away. Your bottom lip trembled and you threw yourself at Jaime.

Your head rested over his heart and you could hear it racing. "J-Jaime. I was so scared." He used his free arm to pull you closer. "It's alright. They won't hurt you." You sniffled and picked your head up. You shook your head and your eyes met his. "I wasn't scared for me, Jaime. I-I was afraid for you." Jaime's brows furrowed. "For me?" You nodded. "I couldn't stand the thought of losing you."

"I'm certain our fathers couldn't either. The marriage would be ruined before it even began." You wanted to smack him for his sarcasm. "That isn't what I meant." You pulled away and set back toward you castle. You heard Jaime sheath his sword and follow after you. "Y/N, wait." You didn't listen. You kept walking as quickly as you could, willing the tears not to fall. "Y/N, please." Jaime's hand settled on your shoulder and you stopped.

"I know what you meant," he whispered, "I was afraid too." You turned to look at him and he admitted, "I've never been so afraid to lose anyone before. Not even Cersei." You grimaced at the mention of his former relationship with his twin. "I know, but Cersei was the only one who had ever shown me any kind of true affection. Y/N...I was so afraid they were going to kill you, I couldn't see straight. I realized that I couldn't lose you."

"Jaime...do you love me?" you asked, your voice so soft he almost didn't hear you. You were looking down at your feet. Jaime brought his golden hand to your chin and raised your head so he could see you (e/c) eyes. "I'm not sure what this kind of love is, but I believe I do love you with everything that is left in me to love." Your tears began to fall freely and Jaime used his flesh hand to wipe them away.

"Do you love me, Y/N?" His green eyes searched yours, desperately looking for something, anything to tell him this wasn't a dream. Anything to tell him that you were real and that you had true and honest love for him. "Yes." His lips descended on yours and you sighed happily into the kiss. By the time the two of you returned to your family's castle, you were no longer the reluctant bride. No. You would marry Jaime, happy to be his wife for the rest of your days.
