Shel loved being a significant part of Leona's quinces. Mainly because the rehearsals allowed for skipping school.

This month was the final rehearsal before the actual party. She thought it was pretty good timing.

First, she'd go to homecoming with Sadie unless she works up the courage to admit she likes Jaz, not that Walt guy, salsa dance to reggaeton with Reyna, scream the lyrics to Welcome To The Black Parade with Nico, and absolutely destroy the operatic part of Bohemian Rhapsody there. Then she'd fly out to Miami and slay the vocals to any Selena song that was played.

It would be a fun weekend.

But, she needed to get through planning first.

Well, Tia Lola and Shel's mother needed to plan. Shel was there as Leona's emotional support.

"Like, my mom is literally going to kill someone," Leona said the moment the duo left to get their parents coffee. "Ricardo asked her for some water while we were planning the dance and she almost murdered him."

"Wait, are you choreographing the dances?"

    Leona nodded.

"Please remember that I am not a cabaret ballroom dancer when you do mine."

    "Aren't you singing?"

    "We have a playlist."

"No, we said you wouldn't need to do a crazy dance if you promise to sing crazy songs."

Shel blinked. She did, in fact, say that. "Okay, what songs do you have in mind?"

    "Emotions."

Shel stared at Leona. Then wheezed. "Babe, who the fuck do you think I am?"

"You ain't married to no average bitch, boy," Leona whispered. When Shel didn't react to the reference, she rolled her eyes. "Fake fan."

Shel placed a hand to her heart. She could practically feel the tears welling up in her eyes at that statement. How? How could someone be so... so cruel?

Shel took a deep breath. "The audacity." She paused. "You can watch my fat ass twist boy."

"I'll leave you alone if you sing that at the party."

"In front of my parents?" Shel asked. "Do you want me to die? Listen, I love Don't Hurt Yourself as much as any Beyonce fan, but I like myself more alive."

Sadie dragged herself to Geometry, ignoring that she didn't do the homework.

    There was something better there.

Walt Stone. She'd interacted with him once, and only once, but god...

The day prior, he was with another girl--Jaz, Sadie believed--and her eyes continued to fall on them. The amulets that were on their wrists, the way their hands seemed to fit together perfectly.

Sadie ignored the wave of jealousy that came every time Walt reached out to Jaz; the only thing keeping her from confessing her love was the fact that she'd need to show face the next day.

Long story short, Sadie did not confess and is now sitting next to Walt in geometry, waiting for her stomach to have a seizure.

    But, the seizure never came.

When Sadie spent the entire class period paying attention to triangles and not Walt, she texted Shel.

~gay~: lol how are you so oblivious to ur own crush

the best person ever: wtf does that mean

    ~gay~: babe

    ~gay~: honey

    ~gay~: love of my life

~gay~: has ur bisexual ass ever considered

    ~gay~: that maybe

    ~gay~: possibly

~gay~: you like whatever the girl's name was and just thought Walt was hot

    ~gay~: because he is

~gay~: but the two of you would not work out in the long run

~gay~: you also don't know anything about him

~gay~: did you even have a conversation with him

    the best person ever: no

~gay~: but you did talk to Jaz

    ~gay~: DON'T TRY TO LIE TO ME I WAS T H E R E

It was true. Jaz was a part of musical theatre, and there was a new assignment. Sadie and Jaz were partnered.

The assignment was relatively simple: A duet.

That's it. That was all the instruction that was given.

The two had bonded over their mutual love of Rent; in their opinion, it was one of the two good classics (the other being Chicago). They decided to sing Take Me or Leave Me as their duet.

Sadie was ranting about it for hours afterward.

Then, as the bell rang and she had to see Jaz once again, the bright smile on the girl's face brought that feeling that Sadie had missed back into her stomach. The butterflies sway around to whatever silent symphony they hear when they see Jaz. And god, that smile that made her feel warm inside. The feeling slowly began to swell as Jaz sang the first part of the duet, and all Sadie could think was:

    Holy shit, I'm in love.

lol

i really wanted to have walt/anubis/sadie but i hate that ship

so have a new one

please note that i'm experimenting with what dynamics and style of writing i like so from here it might get dicey

this is the first time i'd actually be writing ~pining~ and it is an ancient art that i have yet to master

so that one long paragraph was my first try at it, and i'd like to know your feedback!

I am really only writing Soulmates to grow as an author, so anything you say will be appreciated.

that's all for now

love y'all!!!!!
