I Won't Wake Up This Time

I walked from the beach so I wouldn't be as easy to kill and went back into the jungle, my knives at the ready. I began walking slowly this time watching out for any surprise waves trying to kill me. But something worse happened then that. I heard something horrible.

"FLAIRE!"

It was unmistakably Finnick's scream, his voice was calling for me.

"FINNICK!" I screamed back, "FINNICK!"

"FLAIRE, HELP ME!"

"IM COMING! FINNICK!" I shouted.

The adrenaline kicked in and my legs immediately sped up. I sprinted towards the voice, yelling for Finnick in the process. I stopped as my body collided with another. I inhaled and realised who it was. I hugged his sweaty torso and started to cry.

"Woah, woah, hey, hey," he soothed, bringing me into his chest.

"You screamed my name," I sobbed, "I heard it, I know it."

"No, sshhhh, it's okay, I'm fine, you're safe," he whispered.

"I heard you," I said, "you were in pain."

"Hey, hey, calm down," he whispered, "sit down."

He helped me down onto the forest floor as he leant his back against the tree and held my shaking body into him. I curled up and couldn't stop the tears from flowing.

"You're okay," he whispered, rubbing my back gently, "you're okay."

I finally emerged from the comfort of Finnick's chest and breathed heavily. Mags came over giving a comforting hand on my shoulder. I gave her a small smile.

"Maybe you were hallucinating from dehydration," Peeta suggested, handing me a leaf of fresh water.

"No, I heard Finnick," I said.

"You're leg..." Katniss said.

"Dagger," I grimaced, "don't worry I got some help."

"Good," she said.

"You found them," I murmured to Finnick.

"Wasn't too hard," he smiled.

"How are you?" I asked.

"Better now I have you," he said, "I was so scared."

"Why?" I asked.

"I thought you'd gone," he murmured.

"I'm here, I'll always be here," I whispered.

"It's getting dark," Katniss announced, "who's taking first watch."

"I will," I said.

"Flaire," Finnick said, "shouldn't you rest."

"I don't think I can," I murmured.

"Okay then," he agreed.

"I'll go with her," Katniss said.

The boys nodded as Finnick helped Mags lay down among the leaves and sticks. Katniss and I sat together staring up at the moon that shone brightly. We heard a soft snore from Peeta making us both giggle.

"How are you doing?" I asked her.

"I'm okay," she replied.

"I'm not," I laughed, "I think I've gone mad. I was sure it was Finnick's voice."

"Maybe it was the game maker," she shrugged.

"Good point," I said.

"Peeta really wanted to ally you but I wasn't so sure," she explained.
