A/N: you guys seem to love one-shots where Nick is protective of Charlie, so here's another one!

TW: homophobia, violence

Charlie sighed deeply as he stared at himself in the mirror, trying to decide if his outfit looked good enough for his date with Nick. It was hard to choose the right fit when he didn't even know what they were doing for the date, Nick wanted to surprise Charlie this time.

He wasn't a fan of surprises, since his anxiety caused him to worry about every little thing, but when Nick gave him his big puppy-like eyes begging to do the surprise, he couldn't say no.
It gave Charlie a distraction from his thoughts anyway, to think about what the surprise may be. It gave him butterflies at the fact Nick did all this planning to go on a date with him.

"What are you getting graded on the outfit or something?" Tori's voice suddenly echoed throughout the room.

Charlie jumped in surprise and huffed, she always managed to sneak up on him somehow. "No, I'm not getting graded. I just want to look good for Nick."

"Charlie, you could just wear your swimsuit to the date and Nick would think you're a god." Tori snorted.

Charlie blushed at that, because it was true, and pulled on his usual flannel. "Fine, You're right. I'm just nervous because I don't know what the date is, Nick is surprising me." He explained.

"Aw, how cute," Tori said as she sipped her glass of lemonade. "Be safe," she demanded, getting a bad feeling in her gut about the date for some reason. But she wasn't going to tell Charlie.

Charlie looked at Tori in confusion, "Of course, it's just a date and I'm always safe with Nick."

Tori seemed satisfied with that answer and left the room. Charlie combed his hair making sure it wasn't too messy.

"Nick is here!" Julio called out. Charlie took a deep breath, putting on some lipgloss to make his lips look pretty to kiss before rushing downstairs.

"Hi." Nick hummed, he was wearing a nice button-down shirt and black pants.

"Hi. You look so handsome. Oh shit, did I underdress?" Charlie said in surprise as he saw how dressed up Nick was.

"Language!" Julio corrected causing Charlie to roll his eyes.

"No, you're fine," Nick assured and pulled Charlie close by his hips, kissing him gently. "You look perfect."

A shade of pink painted across Charlie's cheeks as Nick pulled him close by his hips. "Okay only if you're sure." Charlie stammered. Nick nodded in assurance and smiled at his boyfriend.

"Text us when you are on your way home. Be home by 11 pm." Julio said sternly. Charlie nodded, pulling Nick out the door. "So, now are you going to tell me where we're going?" He begged.

Nick giggled and held Charlie's hand as they walked. "A restaurant just opened up downtown. If you are up for it I was thinking we can go there, but if you aren't, which is completely fine, we can go somewhere else." He rambled.

Charlie smiled at the fact that Nick had planned around his eating disorder. He squeezed Nick's hand. "I'm fine with that." He assured Nick, "During my therapy session, Geoff said he wanted me to challenge myself so I think a restaurant date would be perfect." He said quietly.

Nick had big soft eyes as he listened to Charlie, "Have I told you how proud of you I am?" He asked. Charlie giggled and couldn't help but blush again, Nick always made him blush. "Yes, you do."

"It's close, 10 minutes away so I thought we could have a nice stroll before." Nick hummed as they walked. Charlie raised an eyebrow at him, "Stroll? What are you 80?" He teased.

Nick laughed, "We are going to grow old and be 80 together." He mumbled.

Charlie looked at Nick in surprise and was as red as a tomato, "You dork."

Nick's face lit up like an excited Golden Retriever as they walked up to a restaurant, "we're here!"

Charlie looked at the restaurant and couldn't help but feel anxious, it looked very fancy.

"You okay babe?" Nick wondered, it was like he had spidey sense for whenever Charlie felt off. Charlie smiled softly, "Yes." He followed Nick inside.

"Hi, table for 2 please," Nick told the host. The host nodded and checked to see which tables were available, "It's going to be a 15 minute wait if you're okay with that."

"Yes, that's fine," Charlie said softly as he knew Nick was going to ask him.

Nick smiled and brought Charlie to the waiting room to sit down and wait. "At least we can cuddle till dinner." He flirted, causing Charlie to chuckle.

"I'd love that." Charlie sat beside Nick and leaned into him, "Thank you for planning this date for us." He hid in his boyfriend's shoulder, feeling grateful.

"Excuse me," An older woman walked up to them, causing Charlie to tense. He felt like she was going to judge them.

"Are you two a couple?"

"Yes, we are," Nick answered proudly, causing Charlie to hold his hand. She made a disgusted expression.

Yup, he was right. Why couldn't they just wait for their table in peace?

"Could you guys not cuddle like that in public? I'm getting uncomfortable, my religion is against you guys." She stated, waiting for their reply.

Charlie looked at the lady in disbelief, it was 2023. He didn't think that there were still old ass homophobes out there. But this proves him wrong, the world is still a cruel place for people like him and Nick.

"If you're uncomfortable with us why are you taking time out of your day to talk to us?" Charlie took a deep breath, trying not to snap. He noticed that Nick was clenching his jaw, trying not to as well.

"Because you need to be told not to do PDA in the waiting room." The women seethed.

Nick stood up and gently pulled Charlie up with him. "If you are going to be giving us shit for who we are then I'm not going to take it. I love my boyfriend and want to be able to hug and kiss him in a waiting room. If this restaurant is allowing you to talk to us this way, then fine. Cancel our table. Come on babe let's go to a different restaurant." Nick scowled and walked out of the building.

Charlie looked at Nick with big eyes. "What?" Nick asked in confusion and turned to him as they got out.

"You stood up for me and told her you loved me," Charlie said as if nobody's ever done it before.

Nick hugged Charlie close and kissed his forehead, "Of course I did. She was ruining our evening and I wasn't going to let her. Do you want to go to a different restaurant or go home?" He asked, rubbing Charlie's side gently.

Charlie sunk into Nick's arms and leaned into him, getting as close as he could. "Can we go home? I don't feel like going out to another place after that I'm sorry-" he was about to ramble but giggled in surprise as Nick kissed him to get him not to apologize.

"Yes let's go home, and it's fine I don't feel like going out either. Want to heat up a pizza?" Nick asked as they began to walk back to Charlie's house.

Charlie nodded and leaned into Nick as they walked and clung onto his arm, he didn't know what he'd do without Nick.

How did he get so lucky?

A/N: what did you guys think?? I hope the ending isn't too cheesy I couldn't think of any other way to end it lmao!
