I know, I know, I keep adding music, but I really can't help it! This one's so sweet and I thought it matched Engie so well♡

Engineer took another swing, and the scrap metal straightened itself out, ready to take the next step.

Wiping his forhead with his arm, he took a breath before his sweaty arms took another swing on the metal, sending his sweat flying and his biceps flexing.

Scout came in with a careless knock, with a bundle of letters and a package.

"Yo egghead! Mail's here"

Engie looked up, and with a smile he murmured a thanks as he took the package. He checked the mail, while flipping it back and forwards to see the sender.

Meanwhile, Scout couldn't help but observe that Engineer wasn't in his signature uniform.

Not that there was anything unusual about being out of it, it was just that Scout.. well, nobody on base has really seen Engineer without it.

Engineer stood still reading his mail in a white wife beater, partially wet with sweat and oil. He was extremely buff, and Scout saw that he had a tattoo of a heart with an arrow through it on his shoulder.

Quite typical, and very much unoriginal, Scout thought to himself. On further inspection he saw the name (Y/n) written on it.

"Hey, who's da chick?"

Engineer looked up.

"Huh? What?"

Scout pointed to his shoulder tattoo, earning a grin from the Texan as his face started dusting with pink.

"Aw that? Tha's my ex girlfriend's name"

Scout laughed.

"Yer ex? Ya sure planned that out brotha! Why don't ya get it erased?"

Engineer gave a chuckle as he washed his greasy hands on a rag.

"Well she left such an impression Ah really can't find tha heart to do it"

Scout's eyes widened.

"Ain't ya married?"

"Yeah, well mah wife don't seem to mind"

Scout gave a puzzled look, and watched Engineer walk towards the back of his workshop, stopping in front of the mini fridge and pulling out two bottles of beer.

"Ya drinkin' right?"

"Yeah sure hit me"

Engineer tossed the bottle across the room, and Scour caught it with ease, opening the cap with some obscure tool of Engie's.

"Well, Ah met (Y/n) in a barley field"

Scout snorted.

"Yeah, just like a movie eh?"

"Yer darn right, but it wasn't as romantic as them movies. The lady came screaming and ran right into mah arms"

"Wha-"

"Said she saw a grass hopper as big as her hand and demanded Ah kill it with mah guitar"

The two burst out laughing, their bottles of beer shaking, with Scout spilling some on the floor.

"Well, anyways Ah calmed her down enough to be able to speak to her, and she said she just came out to tha fields for some sight seein'. Wasn't no suprise for me, since there were plenty of tourists around and one more didn' really matter"

"What happened afterwards?"

"We exchanged some words and said goodbye"

Rolling his eyes, Scout took another gulp of his beer.

"Yeah, real fun Engie, real fun"

Engineer gave a slap on Scout's back, laughing.

"Hey there mister! Ah'm gittin' there!"

"So life went on, and Ah hadn't seen the lady for quite a while. Ah woulda forgotten her if Ah hadn't found her snoopin' around in those barley fields again"

"Snoopin' around?"

"Plastered to the ground like a ground hog. Ah found her crawling around the place we first met"

"What is it with you guys and barley fields?"

"Mah house was nearby. Anyways, found the lady crawling about lookin' for somethin'. It took her a bit but she remembered me and asked me to help her find a notebook she dropped"

Scout took another gulp of his beer, smiling.

"While we were findin' it we found that we made mighty good company. She liked me an' Ah liked her. Afterwards we kept seein' each other.."

Engineer looked into the distance wispfully.

"Ya know when a woman starts to change in yer eyes? Her hair just ain' tha same anymore. Her eyes just start to sparkle, and ya start wantin' ta tangle yer fingers with hers.."

Engineer gave a chuckle and shook his head.

"That's when Ah knew Ah had to make her mine. Ah took her to the mountains nearby one night. The moon high and pale and the barley fields were sighin', the sky a dusty blue"

Scout found himself mesmerised into Engineer's story, and propped his face into his hands, listening attendively.

"Sights like those.. ya don' wanna see it with just anyone. And Ah knew Ah made tha right choice when Ah took her up there, 'Cause the moment Ah pointed out-"

Engineer spread his arms wide.

"Mist covered the barley fields like an ocean wave, the barley pokin' out like trees outta the mist, the sky scattered like sand with stars.."

Scout smiled, but then soon frowned.

"But if tings were goin' so well, why didn't ya stay with her?"

"Stay?"

"You're married now"

Engineer gave a chuckle and slowly got up. Walking tiredly towards his work bench, where he had his mail piled on.

"Well, time went on and we realized we weren't meant to be like that"

Scout couldn't help but show his disappointment to the sad story.

Engineer cut open his mail and went through his letter absentmindedly, looking through it as if he was looking for something.

"Ya know, girls like her, ya don' wanna date no more"

Engineer found a photo from the letter, and held it out in front of Scout grinning.

"Girls like that, ya just wanna settle down with"

Scout looked into the picture, and saw the Engineer flexing the arm with the tattoo, and a girl with the same tattoo, with the Engineer's name written on it.

Scout grinned.

"Jeeze so melodramatic Engie"
