53 | Trust

Brina's POV

I heard a gunshot then within a second my body is now lying on the ground. Not because I got hit but because Lucas push me so I will not get shot. Still, the bullet grazed my left shoulder but this is probably nothing to Lucas who's injured right now.

I adjusted my masked before getting my two daggers I hid on my back then stood up in a fight stance to face L's brother. I saw him with his gun still pointed at me and so composed myself to always be on guard especially since my weapon is a close range fight.

I glanced at Lucas through my peripheral vision and so that he is still conscious, just really drained of energy but I am glad he is still holding on. I knew I need to finish this so I can bring him to a hospital before it's too late.

"Why masked it? It's you right? Danielle's friend, Brina", L's brother spoke in a mocking tone.

"B-Brina?" Lucas who is on the ground whispered.

Shit.

How the fuck did he knew? There's no data of him getting an information of me? Is it L? Oh no, please no! That would break my heart! She was the first person whom I became comfortable with, to the point of telling her my deepest secret.

I did not answer him and so he spoke again, still in mocking tone, "You did not investigated Danielle's identity?"

My curiousity just went higher but I remained silent. I am still in a fighting stance, not bringing my guard down.

"Why? Are you deceived by her shy type demeanor?" He asked me while walking slowly towards the bookshelf where I hid before, "I must reward her for being the best actress."

"Get to the point" I said while gritting my teeth. I don't like what he is implying! I don't want to think L like that!

"Remember five years ago? James Lopez, CEO of Lopez Corp.?" He spoke with anger while throwing a bunch of papers to me.

"That's our father. Me and Danielle's", what he just said made my heart thump louder as it somehow made my assumptions more reasonable — L telling him about my identity.

"Yes, you are right! Danielle told me about you being Zero! That girl finally did something worth while huh" He said while smirking at me.

Danielle told me about you being Zero. That keep replaying on my mind that I the surrounding became mute. L's brother is saying something as his mouth is moving but I can't hear him.

Did I trusted a wrong person? Did I made a promise to a wrong person? Did I made a wrong decision? Did I? Is L a wrong person for me?

"—you ruined our life! So I am gonna destroy yours too!"

Before I can comprehend what is happening, a series of pain skyrocketed on my body. I felt like my left shoulder was burning and I can't do nothing. Red liquid is continuously dripping from my shoulder to the ground.

I got shot.

I thought I would get hurt by that shot, but I am not. I am more in pain because of what L did to me, she broke my trust whom I seldom give to anyone.

I laughed. Now that the situation became clearer to me, darkness is slowly consuming me again, just like before.

He seems baffled by my laugh as he shouted, "What the hell are you laughing at!?"

I ignored him and continue laughing like a freak.

"You are in death's door and you are laughing?!" L's brother exclaimed in anger.
