Wei was quite diffident as a child because of being abandoned, but the more he watched her, the more she unknowingly helped him become more brave.

Due to his shyness, he never once revealed his presence to her until that day Madam Wu tried to have a maid kidnap her. Perhaps it was because he knew she time traveled back and wanted to see her in person but whatever it was, he was glad he met her formally.

On an island south of the empire, a certain immortal's laugh was heard throughout the forested land.

Running his right hand through his bangs, Black Immortal's laugh faded as a serious expression formed.

"I think it's time to reclaim what belonged to me, right?" He asked to no one as he glanced down at his left hand. On his wrist was a flower garland which was the only remnant of his past. To him, it was his most precious treasure since it connected him and his deceased wife.

Behind him, a man sat with one knee on the ground. The man had dirty blond hair and amber eyes, along with green earrings dangling from his ears. The gray cape he wore shuffled on the ground as the wind blew, leaves rustling. His eyes showed no emotions as he watched his master talk to himself. He was none other than Hou An, the right hand man of the Black Immortal.

"Hou An, tell me. Isn't it only fair that I retrieve my wife?" The short haired man casually asked, turning to face his loyal servant.

Hou An nodded, agreeing to whatever his master said.

"Call our men and have them leave the island by tomorrow. Only you and I will remain here."  Black Immortal commanded, walking off into the forest.

Once he was gone, Hou An stood back up and bowed before disappearing to fulfill his duty.

"Are you angry at me?" Wei questioned in a quiet but audible voice.

Wu Xingxie pretended that she didn't hear him as she tried to busy herself with the mooncakes.

Was she angry at him?

Not really. It was out of pettiness that she was acting this way but he deserved it.

"I am engaged to someone else. Guard Wei, don't you think you're crossing the line being so close earlier?" She countered his question with her own. It was true, although she had no feelings for General Tang, she was still his fiancée. So, it was only right that she avoided intimacy with another man who not only happened to be her bodyguard but the person she liked.

"My deepest apologies. I won't let it happen again." Wei bowed and turned around to leave. She didn't turn or say anything else.

Wu Xingxie heard his fading steps and when she was positive he was outside, she breathed out in relief.

"This is for the best." Wu Xingxie whispered to herself.

I don't want to create a rift between them so it's best if I let him go.

She really liked Wei, but she also knew how much Hu Jiayi liked her. The two were best friends, how could she destroy their friendship? Therefore, she came to a final decision to not get involved with any of them.

Not only that, Wu Xingxie didn't want to be blinded by love. The quicker she married, the less reasons she had to like him.
