56 The Family Meeting (3)

The family meeting went on with discussions about various topics.

The last and final topic was the one Wu Xingxie  had been waiting for.

"As for the final topic, I'm sure you all know Yun'er and Xingxie are both at the age where they should be married."
Wu Dingxiang stated in a stern voice.

"That's right, Xingxie is a well known beauty, many men from other family want her hand in marriage." Madam Wu smiled although her words were only because she wanted Wu Xingxie to move out the estate.

"Mother, this daughter has never been outside the estate since I was little. If the young masters only want to marry for my looks, isn't that too shallow?" Wu Xingixe's sharp words caused Madam Wu to lose her temper.

"You!-" Before she could retaliate, her husband's glare reminded her not to make a scene in front of so many people.

"Eldest Miss is right. My Lord, the Eldest Miss hasn't even met any of the other young from other families, how can she marry so soon?" Xi Zhuhong expressed her thoughts. She knew of Madam Wu's intentions so of course she couldn't let it happen.

A few weeks prior, Wu Xingxie had asked what she knew about the other clans. Xi Zhuhong gave information which Wu Xingxie found much useful than some things she heard throughout the capital.

She was also in the plan to show that Wu Xuan wasn't a sick child nor a pushover anymore.

Hearing her statement, most of the others agreed. Maybe if the Eldest Miss had socialized, she could have found a good potential husband by now.

"Father, even if First Sister can't marry now, there's also Second Brother. He's at a suitable age to marry as well and as we know, he's very popular with the young ladies of the capital." Wu Xuan smirked as he stated this. After cultivating, not only had his health improved, his self-esteem and confidence increased.

Maybe because he was always with Wei that he started to behave like the man a bit.

"That's right. Yun'er, I will arrange a wife for you in no time." Master Wu disliked the imperial family but for the sake of his goals, he had to have Wu Yunxia marry into the imperial family.

Wu Yunxia was already aware of his marriage so he didn't object. He only thanked his father for the news.

One day when I'm the crown prince, I can have as many concubines as I want. What's a fallen princess going to do?

"For the princess's birthday, I want Xingxie to attend as well." Master Wu announced. Some were a bit shock as he never allowed her to go to the social events. Did something happen?

"Any objections?"

As the head of the clan, who would go against him? Even Madam Wu held her tongue.

"If there are none then the meeting is adjourned. Those who plan to attend, prepare a gift for Princess Shuchun."

With that said, everyone began to leave the hall.

On their way out, Wu Xingxie sneered at her relatives who only knew how to act fake.

One of her female cousins walked up and smiled.

"Jiejie, we haven't met formally yet. I'm Cai Mingxia, your cousin." Cai Mingxia bowed politely but Wu Xingxie remained silent.

She walked closer to Cai Mingxia, leaned near her ear and in a low voice whispered,
"Jiejie? The daughter of a maid isn't my Meimei."

Cai Mingxia froze as her smile disappeared and turned into a dumbfounded expression.
Wu Xingxie's words were like needles piercing her heart. Since it was the truth, Cai Mingxia was unable to give a response.

Cai Mingxia heard the Eldest Miss was a kind and obedient girl so she thought maybe Wu Xingxie would be easy to trick.

"Are you alright? I only said your skirt is torn a bit. I didn't mean to embarrass you, I only mean well." Wu Xingxie spoke louder with a caring voice while pointing at Cai Mingxia's skirt.

Those near heard her words loud and clear so they looked at the two girls.

Sure enough, Cai Mingxia's skirt was torn, causing everyone to laugh and start whispering things about her.

"Cai Mingxia, as a member of the Wu clan, how can you wear torn clothes at the family meeting? Are you not scared of humiliating your parents?" An elder scolded her.

Cai Mingxia held her head down in shame while trying to figure out how her skirt became like this.

How can this be? My skirt was intact the whole time!

Cai Mingxia glanced at Wu Xingxie. She couldn't tell what the girl's face was like as the veil covered most of her face but seeing her eyes, Cai Mingxia saw mocking and ridicule.

It was then she realized, Wu Xingxie had already been aware of her intentions.

Cai Mingxia's fingers trembled she tried to process if this was the Eldest Miss's true colors.
