I sit on the floor leaning my back against the bed. I shut my eyes tight every time a bomb hits. Flashes of the games flying by in my head. Another bomb hits and the lights turn off. Everyone one by one starts to turn on their lamps and flashlights
I look up to see Kattnis prim and their mom all bundled together on the bed. Another bomb hits and I feel dirt fall on top of me. I look up to see the walls cracking. I look at Kattnis who was already looking at the ceiling. "Prim talk about something, anything" Kattnis tells her "They promoted me at the hospital. I forgot to tell you.they're training me to become a doctor" prim tells her as I listen trying to take my mind off of the bombs "They'd be stupid not to" Kattnis smiles
I spent the night completely restless. The bombs had stopped a while ago thankfully but we're all stuck down here until we know it's clear. I smile as I watch Kattnis move a flashlight around and the cat follows it around. As she does it I start to realize something. I look over to see Finnick laying on a bed, I decided to stand up and give him some company.
"Hey" I smile as I walk up He leans up and I sit next to him I see him looking at a picture of Annie so I decided to speak up "Snows using Annie to punish you. Same with Peeta and Kattnis and Flynn and I. He's taunting use with them. I didn't understand until just now when I was watching that stupid cat follow the flashlight Kattnis had." I tell him He just lets out a sigh then looks at me "I know you've been through a lot with Flynn. You did everything you could to protect him in your first games and this one, but you're not together, why? I know you love him. Anyone who watches can see that" he asks me "The moment Snow knows your weakness, he strikes. I thought us not being together Snow wouldn't think he was my weakness. But I was wrong, he knew from the very beginning that he was. It's my fault he's gone.....How do I live with it?" I ask him tearing up "I drag myself outta nightmares and there's no relief in waking up. But it's better not to give in to it. It takes 10 times longer to put yourself back together than it does to fall apart." He tells me I lean my head on his shoulder "Thank you Finnick" I say as a single tear falls from my eye. He wraps his arm around me in a side hug "We will make it. I don't know when but one day, we'll make it" he tells me
I lean against Kattnis' bed. I didn't want to fall asleep because the moment I do I'll just wake everyone up from my screaming. "Evelyn" Boggs says and I stand up quickly "Kattnis. Kattnis" Boggs says touching her slightly She finally turns around waking up. "Come with me" he tells us both
As soon as we walk in we see coin sitting there. "We took their best shot. Didn't we?" She asks "Yeah" Kattnis nods "Your mother and sister ok?" She asks Kattnis "Yeah they're fine" she tells her "I need you both do to something for us. I need you to tell Panem that we survived an attack by the Capitol with no casualties. And we remain fully operational" she tells us "Ok" we nod "You should know something. We had 8 extra minutes of civilian evacuation because of Flynn's warning. I won't forget that" she smiles "Thank you" I nod
As we walk up the stairs to go outside Effie tells us our lines. "Ok Kattnis your line is '13 is alive and well'. And Evelyn you finish with 'and so are we'" she tells us but we don't answer "Kattnis? Evelyn? Never one to waste it in rehearsal. I know." She mumbles
We walk outside to see all the distraction. We walk down the small hole to see it filled with white roses there. Kattnis and I both bend down to pick one up. We stare at it then look at each other. "Why would they drop these?" Gale asks "For us" Kattnis tells him "Ready to go girls?" Cressida asks "We're gonna do this just like district 8. Tell me about the roses" she tells us but we don't say anything "Tell Snow 13 is alive and well" she adds Kattnis and I just look at each other "He's gonna kill them" I mumble "Let's try that again, can you speak up? We don't have a mic on you. 13 is alive and well and so are we" she says "He's gonna kill them" I mumble again "We can't" Kattnis says "Kattnis? Evelyn? You can do it Kattnis" Gale says "No we can't do this" Kattnis tells them "13 is alive and well and so are we" Cressida says again "He's just gonna keep... he's never gonna stop" I say, tears flood my eyes as I start to pass back and forth "Cressida we should cut the cameras" Effie tells her "As long as we're the mockingjays" Kattnis mumbles as haymitch tries to hug her "It's ok" he tells her but she pushes him back softly "No he warned us. He warned us about this" I tell them "He's doing this because we're the mockingjays. He's punishing Peeta and Flynn to punish us. No" she says "I can't do this" I mumble as I walk off hearing Kattnis behind me "Don't make me do this!" Kattnis tells Cressida "Let them go" Boggs says "I gotta get out of here" I mumble as I start to hyperventilate
I sit in the corner of the room with Kattnis. My knees up to my chest as I think about Flynn. He's going to die, and it's going to be my fault. I should've never shot that arrow.
I look up when I hear someone walk in. Haymitch takes a sit in front of Kattnis so he's closer to me as well. "So this is the end? I suppose you're just gonna live down here forever?" He asks "We can't be the mockingjays" Kattnis tells him "Not the mockingjays. Just Kattnis and Evelyn" he says "You know you're probably the only real friend I have down here. You too Evelyn, even though I wasn't as close with you like Roman" he tells me "But I don't suppose they gave you any kind of medication?" He asks Kattnis "You're unbelievable" she shakes her head "Ok but I meant what I said. Look the reason I'm here is to let you know they're rescuing them." He says and both Kattnis and I look at him "What?" Kattnis asks "The dam went down in district 5, took out most of the power to the Capitol. Knocked out their signal defense. Beetee's inside their system now, wreaking all kinds of havoc. A window is open to us. For how much longer? I don't know. I guess until the Capitol can get the power back on." He tells us "And president coin?" I ask "You know I can never fully support that woman in the light of the prohibition they have going on around this place, but Plutarch got word that Peeta, Flynn and the others are in the tribute center. And with the power out, coin sees this as an opportunity. She knows that Peeta and Flynn are the Capitols weapon. The same way you're ours. And as opposed to having you three pointing at each other, she's gonna get to them." Haymitch tells "We have to go help them" Kattnis says as we stand up but he stops us "Hey whoa kiddo wait" he says "Come on. Are you just gonna jump outta the vent and go storm the Capitol? Besides, it's already underway." He tells us "Six soldiers went in. Volunteer only. And guess who was the first brave soul to sign up" Haymitch tells Kattnis "Gale" she says
