"You really should ask Mystery Girl out," Devyn says again, as we walk to our last class.

"Yeah," I sigh. If only it was that easy.

"You should come over after school," Devyn murmurs. "Emery and Aria won't be there because they're going out to do something with their friends."

"So you won't be able to spend time with Leia?" I smirk.

"Shut up," he smiles.

"Are you still going to keep an eye on Emery until they leave?" I ask.

"Mhm," Devyn frowns. "Last time a guy dumped her she stopped eating. She can't do that again."

Yeah, I know.

"I think she'll be fine," I mumble. God, please let her be fine.

"I do too," he says. "I just want to make sure, you know?"

"Yeah," I murmur. "And I'll be there. You can pretend I'm Leia."

"Definitely not," Devyn snorts.

By the time school is over, Devyn has told me to ask out Mystery Girl seven more times, and as we walk to my car, he asks again.

"How come you want me to ask her all of the sudden?" I laugh.

"Because," Devyn says, "you're seventeen and you still haven't had a girlfriend yet. You haven't even had your first kiss."

"I'd rather not have had one than be like you," I snort. "You've been kissing girls since you were in like third grade."

"That's because all the girls love me," Devyn smiles.

"I'm sure it is," I smirk.

"Emery's the same way," Devyn says matter-of-factly. "She's had more guys kiss her than I can count."

Yes, I know that. I wish she didn't have guys kissing her all of the time.

"You remind me of Aria," Devyn says all of a sudden.

"Why?" I chuckle.

"Because you both refuse to kiss people," Devyn murmurs.

"Oh God, we're back on this," I mutter.

"Yes we're back on this, " Devyn says. "You need a girlfriend. And obviously, Mystery Girl is the only girl you're interested in."

I shake my head, "I don't need a girlfriend. You want me to have one."

"Same thing," Devyn mumbles.

When we pull up to his house, he hops out of the car and takes off toward the front door. I sigh and follow behind him.

"Aria," Devyn calls. When her head pokes around the corner, he continues. "Can you please tell Grayson to get a girlfriend?"

"And we're still talking about this," I mutter, setting the keys on the kitchen table.

"I don't think he needs a girlfriend," Aria laughs.

"See," I smirk at Devyn. "Your sister agrees with me."

"Emery would agree with me," Devyn mumbles under his breath.

"I'm sure she would," Aria shakes her head.

"Where is Emery?" Devyn looks down the hall.

"She's changing," Aria smiles.

"For what?" Devyn cocks his head to the side.

"We're going out," Aria says. "Yes, Leia's going. No, you can't go."

Devyn makes a pout face then walks over to the couch and flops down.

Emery and Leia come walking out in the tiny dresses that they sometimes wear.

Fuck. I love the way she looks in that dress.

It takes everything in me to tear my eyes away from Emery and look at the floor.

"Oh good," Aria walks toward the bathroom, "you're ready. Now I'll change. Rebekah! Joslyn! Hurry up!"

Leia walks away to go sit with Devyn, leaving me and Emery alone.

"Why are you glaring at me?" I snap at her.

"I'm hoping you'll spontaneously combust," Emery smiles.

She turns to walk away but trips on a jacket laying on the floor.

"Fuck," she hisses.

"I swear you could trip over your own shadow," I snort.

"My shadow's a tricky little asshole. It loves to see me fall to its level," Emery mumbles.

"God you're petty as fuck," I roll my eyes.

"Damn right I'm pretty," Emery smiles.

Yes, you are.

"I said petty," I grumble.

She scrunches her nose, "I don't even know what that means."

"Of course not," I murmur.

A few seconds later, Rebekah and Joslyn come out in their dresses.

"Where's Aria?" Joslyn asks.

"Bathroom," Emery mumbles.

"Okay," Joslyn hums.

Rebekah and Joslyn make their way into the living room, leaving me and Emery to go back to our bickering.

"You know what," Emery's eyebrows raise. "I think it would be funny to see how Devyn reacts to someone flirting with his girlfriend."

"You can't do that," I snort, already knowing where she's going with this. "Leave them alone and use your common sense."

"Common sense is boring," Emery whines.

God, this girl.

"Alright, let's go," Aria calls as she walks from the bathroom.

All four girls immediately begin walking toward the front door.

"Bye, Devyn," Emery calls over her shoulder before slipping out the door.

"Bye," Devyn murmurs, keeping his eyes on Leia.

Devyn continues staring at the door long after their car drives away.

After almost two hours of them being gone, Devyn finally gives up on patience.

"Hand me my phone," he mumbles. "I'm going to call Leia."

"Sure," I chuckle, handing him his phone.

He unlocks it, but before he can call her, the door swings open.

"We're back," Aria calls.

"Oh good," Devyn says, getting up and walking towards Leia. The two of them walk down the hallway to Devyn's room and Aria and Emery watch with smirks on their faces.

"Keep it quiet," Emery calls after them.

"Shut up," Devyn snorts as Leia's face reddens.

Aria rolls her eyes and walks to her bedroom.

"Well," Emery sighs, "looks like it's just you and me. Again."

"Looks like it," I murmur.

"Aria doesn't think Leia and Devyn are going to last," Emery shakes her head. "I do though."

"I do too," I mumble.

It's only when I see the look on her face do I realize my mistake. Shit.

"Did you just...agree with me?" Emery raises her eyebrows.

"I wish I could—"

"Nope," she cuts me off. "You said it. No takebacks."

Of course, not.
