SITTING IN THE GRAND HALL, next to none other than Charlie Dalton, Caroline couldn't help but let her mind wander to their kiss the previous night. She could still feel his lips on hers. Of course, the Barnes girl had kissed boys before in momentary acts of rebellion against her father, but this was different. It was gentle but passionate.

Neither of them had said anything about it since it happened, which kind of worried her. Was he pretending like it didn't happen because he wished it hadn't?

They all stood up when Nolan and the other administrators entered the grand hall. Once Charlie printed the article in the school newspaper, the school board was not happy. They had called a meeting to figure out who wrote and printed it. The group of elderly men made their way to the front of the room angrily.

"Sit," Nolan ordered, and they all followed, having a seat in the benches and staring nervously up at him. "In this week of Welton's Honor there appeared a profane and unauthorized article."

"Rather than spend my valuable time ferreting out the guilty persons—and let me assure you I will find them—I'm asking any and all students who knows anything about this article to make themselves known here and now. Whoever the guilty persons are, this is your only chance to avoid expulsion from this school."
