I lift my hand, placing it on my forehead where he had placed a kiss. It's obvious where this is gonna head. It's obvious what his intention is. He's trying to get to know me because he has feelings for me. I'm not sure what to do about this. After all, I still have feelings for Akaza, and deep within my heart... I still wish he'd come back to me.

-This Can't Be Real-

Y/N P.O.V

Rengoku came to visit often. Normally in the evening, and he stays until it's time for him to go on missions to slay demons. He has told me more about them and the kind of monsters they are. But he didn't know that I'm close with one of them. At least... I was.

"Is there something bothering your mind, L/N-San?" A voice said. I blink my eyes as I snapped out of my daze. I turn my head to look at Rengoku. He stares at me with a look of concern. "You've been awfully silent. If there's something bothering your mind, you can talk to me. I'll help in every way I can" he said.

"Eh... it's nothing, Rengoku-San" I said, smiling softly at him. He didn't look convince by what I said. "Really. I'm fine. Don't worry" I said, trying to assure him. He hum softly and nod my head. I'm glad he didn't pester me to tell him, and respected my privacy.

"I'll always worry when it comes to you" he said. I turn my head away from him. Akaza said exactly that. He've said the same thing as Rengoku did. He also promised that he'd always be there for me. But, where is he now?

"I'm about to head out for mission soon. I think it'll be best if I walk you home first" he said. I turn my head to look at him. I smile softly and nod my head. He smiles at me and stands up. He waits patiently as I arrange my flowers. He offered to help but I always declined. I like to organized things in my own way. So he finally gave up on trying to help.

Soon I'm finished packing up my flowers. Rengoku gently takes the basket from me. Something he managed to convince me to agree. The two of us starts to walk back to my house.

Rengoku and I walks up the hill that leads to my house. I smile softly as Rengoku continues to tell me stories of how his life as Demon Slayer has been. If it weren't for Akaza, I wouldn't have believed about the existence of demons.

"I'm impressed with how brave you are, Rengoku-San" I said, giving him a close-eyed smile as we continue to walk. Once we reach the top, I turn my head to look forward to where my house is located. My eyes widen at the sight. The basket that Rengoku had handed back to me falls out of my grip.

"L/N-San? Hey, what's wro-" Rengoku stopped mid-sentence when he turn to look for himself. My house is in shambles. The door has been torn off. There's also some splotches of blood around the ground. I let out a shaky breath and rushes forward.

I reach the door. I let out a horrified gasp as I falls on my knees. "No..." I breathed out, not wanting to believe what happened. Both of my parents are lying on the ground, pools of blood surrounding their lifeless bodies. "NO!! Mother! Father! Tell me this isn't happening! This can't be true!!" I screamed out. Endless tears starts to stream down my cheeks.

"More snacks?" A voice said. I turn my head to see a humanoid creature. My eyes widen at the sight. It looks like a human but a deformed one. I feel fear growing in my heart. It lunges at me but before it could do any harm, a flash of silver appears and decapitate its head. The body falls near me, making me finch.

I let out a shriek when it twitches. I grab an axe that is lying near me. I start to hit it repeatedly. Even when it had stopped moving, I didn't stop. I keep cutting as I cry harder.

"L/N-San! Hey! It's over" a voice said, gently grabbing the axe from my hand. I feel my body getting pulled into an embrace. "It's okay... you're safe. I'm here, L/N-San" he said.

"Rengoku-San... my parents" I cried out. He just holds me tighter. I bury my face into his chest as I start to cry harder. My cry eventually grew louder. But Rengoku did not seem to care as he continues to hold me, letting me vent out all of my sadness.

Eventually, I grew tired of crying. It almost feels like my body is shutting down. So I close my eyes, letting the darkness embraces my body as I lose my consciousness and falls limp in Rengoku's arms.

Time-skip

I slowly open my eyes to see a white ceiling above me. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Until my mind start to remember what had happened. I feel tears starts to gather in my eyes.

"Mom... dad..." I cried out. I feel my hand being held. I turn my head to see Rengoku. He smiles sadly at me as if he's aware of what I must be feeling right now. "Both of my parents... they're gone, Rengoku-San" I cried out.

I move to sit up as he moves to sit on the edge of the bed. He place a hand on the side of my head, gently pulling me close until my face is buried in the crook of his neck. I start to cry again as he held me tight. I can't believe this is actually happening.

"I can't say I know what you're feeling. But I do know that it feels like to lose someone. But you're not alone, L/N-San. I'm right here... and I'll always be here. For as long as you let me be" he said, in a soft voice. I choke out a sob as I close my eyes. My hand clutching onto his shirt.

I slowly calmed down. But I didn't make a move to pull away from Rengoku. The words he just said were the words Akaza always said to me. But even he broke the promise. Akaza... why did you have to leave?
