Part 18: The last card

Silence isn't empty, it's full of answers.
-Pinintrest

Devika watched her spouse, as his eyes grew hooded and dark. His manarism changing to another dynamics, growing gaurded and furious like never before.
Although, his elder brother still kept up the pretence to look delighted or she assumed so since there is no way knowing about someone genuineness, specially when their smiles are so bright and infective.

He watched over as the supplies were loaded back into the carts the half errected tents, folded back along with everything else, ready to leave for the palace.
But the quandary here wasn't about going to palace hereupon, but who is  the one superior here. Because one thing that she knew about her husband was that he ain't made to take orders! He likes to dictate his own.

"Come'on sister, let me help you upto your carriage and then we can proceed for the palace. " Roopak  extened his hand with a tender smile to Devika as she alternately looked at the two brothers, infinitely more confounded in which side to choose.

'Her scowling husband?' Or 'an amused brother in law?' Although, it looked a very childish dispute between the brothers, she personally liked a smile over a scowl and after what Chandra had done, he deserves it!

So responding in her kind she walked with him to the carriage. She doesn't know what followed after the door of the wagon closed after her but, she was beyond surprised to find Chandra mounting his horse and riding beside her window as the caravan moved on, like he had done the whole day.
'Without an argument!'

Sleep from her eyes had long evaded her and instead only anxiousness and cold sweat remained, while she dreaded the moment when she would make an appearance to the palace where she would be loathed and despised for her husband's reputation of course. And then there would be the supposedly harassed princess and her sister!
'No there wasn't an ounce of doubt left within her that their entrace was going to be extremely dramatic!'

A tense and theatrical atmosphere she had anticipated but outright vile and spiteful ridiculing of her husband wasn't something she had seen coming.
When the carriage wheels rolled down the pathway leading to the royal residency and the humongous castle came into her view for the first time, that stood proud with it's head held high spread across what looked like- miles of area a saying of a wise old man came back to her. 'Some of the things in the world are strange, people can look at them and be awed by it's appearance yet such is it's nature that they can never smile looking at it!'

The palace was that, where there was the glistening riches and hub of comfort and yet there was undefined cold and emptiness that can never be filled.
Bouts of shivers ran along her spine as the palace approached nearer, the stone walls were indeed giving her a kind of chills that she had never felt before.
