CRIMES ON THE ARK.

i'm like 106% sure you all know this if you're reading this book, but obviously on the Ark every crime, no matter how small, is punishable by death. unless you're under eighteen. if that's the case you are stuck in lockup (the Skybox) until your eighteenth birthday when you're reviewed by the council and either floated or on rare occasion let back into the Ark's society.
lots of fanfics for the 100 revolve around a character who was originally in lockup, and sent down to the ground with the other 99 delinquents and i guess bellamy lol what a moocher. anyways ignore me, if you're creating a fanfic with this plot line, it's important to pick a good crime/reason your character is in lockup. i'm gonna put a list below of possible crimes your character could have committed. (JUST SAYING there's probably more crimes and reasons your character could be in lockup, you don't have to use one of mine, these are just ideas)
*remember - just because your OC is a 'criminal' on the Ark, it doesn't necessarily mean your OC is hardened, ruthless criminal. yeah, some of the delinquents were murderers etc, but some were in lock up for dumb reasons like being freaking born, etc.
CRIMES IDEAS:
→ stealing rations. obviously this crime has lots of wiggle room bc firstly you can choose what sort of rations they stole... food?... medicine?...etc. then obviously depending what ration they stole, there's a story behind that. i.e. did they steal medicine bc their parent was dying...? or were they put up to it?
→ drug use. again, this crime gives you room to play around. is your OC just simply a stoner? or were they using the drugs they were caught with or a different reason? were they covering up for someone else? you get the picture.
→ hacking. i think this crime is kinda cool and not too common. plus i don't remember any of the delinquents on the show being arrested for this crime (correct me if i'm wrong) so it kinda would make your OC unique! also it's interesting to figure out why your OC was hacking? were they trying to figure out why their parent was mysteriously floated? did they overhear Clarke talking about the oxygen shortage and wanted to see for themselves? was their friend taken away and put into lockup and they want to know why? etc etc etc...
→ assault. your OC attacked a member of the guard or of the council. or anyone really. it's your job to come up with why. maybe it was someone who was on the council when their friend or parent was floated. maybe it was a member of the guard who used their friend or parent...the choice is yours. also you get to decide, was it a planned attack or a sudden outburst bc of emotions and anger.
→ revolt. maybe your OC tried to start a rebellion against the council but was thrown into lockup before they could start anything big. you can decide what happened to inspire them to start a rebellion and what happened that got them caught.
→ aiding and abetting. your OC wasn't actually convicted of any actual crime but they helped another criminal. i.e. maybe they lied to the council about a criminal's whereabouts, helped hide a family's second child, had a job in go-sci station and gave a criminal information to access classified information, etc...
→ being born. maybe your OC is a second child and was thrown into lockup after they were discovered. you have to be really careful when using this crime because obviously it's the exact same as Octavia's. if you write carefully and come up with a really different, exciting plot it definitely could work. but if you're sloppy, and just pretty much copy Octavia, it's kinda pointless and readers may be bored because it's so similar to a TV character's story line.
→ other. obviously there are more crimes possible to do on the Ark. think spacewalking, for example. if you're super creative like Finn and can think up something like that, by all means do it. (side note, i personally wouldn't recommend having your character put in lock up for spacewalking bc that's kinda Finn and Raven's thing) BUT if you can think up a super unique crime like that i totally encourage you to use it for your story.
