WHO IS ARSENAL'S NEW NUMBER 8, and what can she bring to the team? Madeline (Maddie) Cately debuted for Melbourne City FC when she was only 14, being the youngest player to debut for a w-league side, beating Sam Kerr's previous set record at age 15. Since her debut, she has won the W-League Championship 5 times, and the premiership once. After her successful single season with Melbourne Victory, Catley transfered to the Swedish side, Hammarby along with fellow Matildas team mate, Kyra Cooney-Cross, and won the Swedish cup. 

She has her fare share of individual accolades, including 3 FFA female Under 20 footballer of the year, and 2x PFA Australian Young Footballer of the year. 

Catley debuted for the Matildas In 2018, when she was added to the Australian squad for the Tournament of Nations . She made her debut late in the game against Brazil, thus becoming the fifth youngest player for the Matildas at 15 years and 162 days. Catley was also called up to play at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. At the age of 16, she was the squad's youngest player, along with Mary Fowler. Catley was selected to the Australian squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics, and started every game except 2, at only 18 years of age.  

After her world breaking 2023 WWC, starting every game and getting one goal and three assists as a defensive midfielder, many of the top clubs across the globe were after the younger Catley. (Manchester City, Lyon, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal.) After a long talking period it has been released today that Catley has signed with Arsenal, joining Matildas teammate Caitlin Foord, and older sister Steph Catley. 

We wish Catley the best at her new club and are excited to see her play in the upcoming 2023/24 WSL season, is this formidable youngster she the key to arsenal finally beating chelsea out for the title?
