IT'S FREEZING, BUT MIKE, TYLER, JESSICA AND OTHER SUIT UP FOR SURFING. Eric hangs with them. Me and Bella wanders by the driftwood with Angela, who takes photographs.
"I keep thinking Eric's going to ask me to prom, then he just...doesn't." Angela told us
"You could ask him." Bella says off of Angela flustered look
"Take control. You're a strong independent woman." I told her
"I am?"
All of a sudden
"Bella!"
Bella looks up to see three Quileute boys approach the group; Jacob black, and Sam and Embry. Bella smiles at Jacob.
"Guys, this is Jacob. Are you stalking me?" Bella asked him
"You're on my rez, remember? You surfing?" Jacob asked Bella
"Definitely not." Bella stated
"Keep them company. There dates bailed." Jessica told him
"What date?" Eric asked
"They invited both Edward and Jasper." Jessica told us
"To be nice."
"To be polite." Me and Bella said in unison
"I think it's nice they invited them. No one ever does." Angela commented
"Because Cullen's a freak. Both of them." Mike told us
I frowned at him
"You got that right." Sam commented looking at me
"You know them?" I asked him
"The Cullen's don't come here." Sam told me sharply
Jacob shoots Sam a look, shakes his head. We registers this. Then Bella casually pulls Jacob aside.
"You want to go look at tide pools?" Bella asked him
Bella looked back at me motioning for me to come with I nodded
She offers an awkwardly flirtatious smile. He grins, infatuated. As the head toward the water.
Me, Bella and Jacob wander near the water, looking out to Sea for whales. The surfers are out on the waves. Bella nudges him, continuing her attempt at flirtation.
"So, what did your friend mean about the Cullen's not coming here?" I asked him
"Caught that, huh?" He questioned
He moves over towards me lowering his voice for mock-secrecy.
"I'm not supposed to say anything." He told me
I give him my best alluring smile
"I can keep a secret, I promise." I told him
Jacob laughs
"It's just an old scary story. Did you guys know the Quileutes are supposedly descended from wolves?" Jacob asked us
"Like fur, fangs...doggy breath?" Bella asked
I rolled my eyes at him
Jacob chuckles. Bella smiles and prompts him to continue.
"So the legend about the Cullens is..." Jacob trails off
"Well, they're supposedly descended from this, like... "enemy clan." But they claimed to be different, so we made a treaty with them." Jacob told us
"Didn't they just move here?" I asked him
"Or moved back."
"Right. So what was this treaty." Bella asked
"If they promised to stay off Quileute lands, we wouldn't expose what they really were to the pale-faces..." Jacob whispered
Jacob pauses dramatically Bella shivers
"Like. Vampire?" I asked him
He looked at me
"Vampire aren't real." He told me
I shook my head silent
"AHHHHHHHGH!!" A girl screams
Bella jumps at the bloodcurdling scream,. As Angela runs past, chased by Eric waving a dead crustacean. Jacob smirks and starts back to the group.
