If I'm not mistaken, this is the first story that featured a married couple, instead of the usual stranger/boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.
Story was inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey since I am a huge fan of the franchise; recognize the peacock feather?
Original idea was just that Marianne and Carlos wanted to get a divorce but basically couldn't bring themselves to do it. The new idea sounds better.
