Singing To Be Heard

By: Valerie Barnard

Just another girl,

Singing in her head,

Wishing for another chance,

not wanting to see everything they've ever said.

Standing in the corner,

not moving, not making a scene

What could this girl possibly do?

She wasn't allowed to even scream.

She was a lonely child,

Her mother was gone every night,

What child wanted to go through this pain,

especially when there was no more light.

But just another girl,

Singing in her head,

Wishing for another chance,

Waiting for what lurked ahead.

Another day would go by,

She knew he'd come to see.

That there would only be,

a child's motionless eyes staring back at thee.

He never saw it coming,

He never got the reason why,

But this girl had enough,

and listed her reasons to die.

Just another girl,

Singing to the dead,

That they would love her,

Just like everyone once had said.

Her father lifted up the letter,

read it one by one.

Only, this is what he did

this is what he had done.

"Daddy, don't think about it this way,

I'm better here you see.

These people will love me more,

They'll let me be me.

The reason why I did this daddy,

is because I loved you so.

But here is a list of torments,

that you thought I'd never know.

1. Daddy, do you remember, the girl you left behind?

The one you hit when mommy would leave,

Because you never wanted to fight, or grieve?

2. Daddy, do you remember when you said you wanted to love me,

the way you and mommy did?

Oh, how you told me everything was normal,

but you had it hid.

3. But do you actually see, the torment I had got,

When you killed my animal,

making me watch the body rot.

The eyes fell out first,

maggots tearing at it's left over skin,

I didn't understand,

How was this your victory win?

So, just another girl.

Singing to be heard.

Wishing for another chance,

that death will soon take your stance.
