smell holds memories

I walk down the halls
past the classrooms I was once in
and I can smell every single memory I had in there

good ones, bad ones

rooms hold memories.
-

I walk past someone I used to know,

A smell of something familiar.

I turn back looking behind me

and see them looking back as well

but we look away and continue walking the other way.

an old stranger's scent holds memories.
-

I clean up my room,

seeing a half empty bottom of perfume,

I bring it up to my nose to smell

i'm my old self,
when I hated myself,
when I had everything
and nothing at the same time.

I lingered onto the bottle for a few extra seconds,
I then set the perfume down,

perfume can hold memories.
-

never look behind you,
even if you swore you smelled a familiar scent

that brought you joy
and sadness.

because it's in the past

and you can't dwell on that.
