Hey! Sorry for the delay. I signed in onto the computer to write versus using my phone to write... I hated it. Every second of it. It made the paragraphs look like shiiiit lol! So back to the phone I go 😂

Anywhoooo,
I hope you all enjoy this chapter!

Daphne:

"I think it could use some more m&ms, don't you think?" Joslyn asks as I stir together the contents of trail mix that she and I are putting together.

I shake my head with a small laugh, "it's mostly m&ms with a dash of peanuts and raisins."

Joslyn makes one of those faces where you can see exactly what she's thinking, "that means nothing. Let me add another bag."

As she pours the contents of candy into the mixture, I wander aimlessly around the kitchen, trying to help familiarize myself with where things are.
I glance out the glass French doors that lead to the deck outback, catching the sight of the bubbling jacuzzi and the large pool that has color changing lights. "Please tell me you were serious about swimming tomorrow. I've never seen a pool or jacuzzi so nice before."

"I never joke or lie when it comes to taking advantage of the extra amenities such as the pool and getting myself a tan." She smiles, taking a handful of the 'trail mix' that's mostly chocolate at this point.

I follow Joslyn out of the kitchen and into the large living room where Alec and Bobby are sitting, chitchatting about work.
Alec, Joslyns dad and I make eye contact but we both quickly look away.

I know for a fact that he thinks I'm just some silly young girl who doesn't have her crap together, free loading and couch surfing during the summer. But I can't blame him.
I did switch majors, I don't have a job, and I'm staying here for the summer instead of my parents. No wonder he can't make eye contact with me for longer than two seconds.

"So, Daphne. Who's your favorite driver?" Bobby asks, pointing to my faded Dale Earnhardt t-shirt.

"Eh, I never watched Nascar when Dale senior was driving, but I know he would've been my favorite. I liked Dale Jr. but since he left, I'll have to say Bowman or Hendricks."

Bobby nods his head in agreement, "smart girl. I can't stand a lot of the new drivers. They're too flashy."

"Oh definitely." I smile, taking a sip of the beer Joslyn had brought me.

"So, Dad." Joslyn starts, making everyone including the precious fur baby look at her. "You're supposed to get promoted soon?"

Alec clicks his tongue, giving Bobby a side eye glance while Bobby just smiles as he sneaks a large handful of the trail mix Joslyn had put on the coffee table. "Supposed to. Why? What about it?"

"Are you going to take it?"

He shakes his head, taking a quick sip to finish off his beer, "I don't know. I might. Might not."

"You should. Why wouldn't you want to go further in your career, climb the ladder?" She fights, digging for answers.

"Joslyn. Enough." He says firmly, standing up from the couch.

Trying to keep my gaze low and not make eye contact with anyone in the now tense atmosphere, I barely see Alec step out of the room.
I hear the fridge swing open and the clinking of what I assume to be beer bottles.

The popping followed by the fizzing sounds of a beer opening, followed by a deep sigh behind me, which seems to reverberate in me from my head to my toes. As he steps back into the room, I glance back and see Alec, Joslyns dad, leaning against the frame of the entryway.
His eyes focus in on me, even as my blush rises to my cheeks, we keep eye contact.
