To fully understand what a Therian is, we must first understand where the word "Therian" comes from. The word "Therian" is a noun, pronounced (thir-ē-ən). According to the scientific studies dictionary, "Therian" relates to; any of a subclass (Theria) of mammals comprising the marsupials and the placental mammals. Although, that's not what we, Therians, use the word to relate or associate with.
The word "Therian" is short for "Therianthropy" or "Therianthrope". Therian is a subgenre or sub-categorization of "Otherkin". Otherkin relates to any person or individual that identifies as either partially or fully non-human on a non-physical level for spiritual or psychological reasons. This includes Therians, Mythkin, Fictionkin, Plantkins, etc.
So, a Therian is someone who identifies, on a non-biological/physical level, as a non-human earthen animal (does or once did exist and live on earth).

The reason for this belief and identity is currently unknown, as almost no studies have been made on the subject.
