The glare I received when I told Bruce I wanted to leave the mansion had me terrified to my soul. Granted that it was expected since I got into an accident and all but I hoped he'd let me leave.

He didn't

Instead I had a sea of bodyguards with me wherever I go. I couldn't walk around my own prison in peace without their looming presence over me. I would've shrugged it off if the idiots didn't mess up my cake in the kitchen. The book issue was easier to let go of, but baking is where I cross the line

"That's it!! All of you, out!!" I screamed when baldy somehow caused flour to end up in the sink and with the water running there was no way the flour could be saved. The remaining three were of no help in the slightest. I had baking and books as my way of staying calm. I couldn't read any book because the idiots said the book could be a bomb

A bloody bomb

Sure that could be possible in a sense but I couldn't help but plan their deaths in my head. They're following orders and all but I wish they had more brains than brawn.

Maybe Lucas can help me

“But Sir Bruce told us not to leave you alone,” one of the guards protested. His loyalty was unwavering, misguided. I clenched my fists, determined to find a way out of this gilded cage.

"If you value your life you will leave me alone" I seethed, turning to glare at them. The one thing that can calm me has been ruined by these so called bodyguards. If they come up with another crazy excuse like the flour could kill me I might just show them how it's done.

"Sir, we can't–"

"I said, leave"

Reluctantly they left and I was finally able to relax. Thankfully, baldy didn't destroy all the flour so some could be salvaged for cookies.

Lucas entered the kitchen the moment I removed the last batch of cookies to cool. I rolled my eyes at his behavior and set out the cookies on a plate. I smaked his grabby hands away from snatching a piece.

"You need to practice better customer service" I leveled him a flat stare and started to clean up my baking station. Ignoring his glare I continued cleaning and turned to him when I was finally done

"You're not a customer"

"I need my daily does of sugar, please" he wailed dramatically, going down on his knees. How someone like him can turn into a child because of some cookies is beyond me. He's the third person to fear in the entire mansion and here he is begging for a cookie.

"Well, if you'd help me I'd bake all the cookies you want but oh well...." He rolled his eyes and got up, dusting his knees. I understand why he doesn't want to help me, but for the sake of my curiosity I want to know how deep I'm falling. If I decide to spend the rest of my life with a mafia boss I should know what I'm getting myself into

I sighed and left the kitchen, not caring if the cookies would be devoured by him.

Well he wasn't of any help

I walked around the mansion with my bodyguards a reasonable distance from me. The library was a no go so and the kitchen was out of bounds so all I could do was enjoy the serenity of the blooming flowers. I wanted to hate Bruce for locking me up in this mansion but I can't. I know he wants to protect me but he should know to trust me too. If I left I would still come back. Rolling my eyes I sighed and leaned backward, trying to clear my mind.

"The flowers look lovely" I cracked and eyelid to see Bruce hovering over me. So he does leave his office.

"Yes, lovely" I deadpanned and started to get up before he pulled me down to his lap. His grip on my waist was impossible for me to escape from. After minutes of struggling I gave up and rested my head on his shoulder, facing away from him. It didn't stop him from littering kisses on my nape. He suddenly wrapped my legs around his waist and stood up, walking away from the garden. The guards didn't follow and stood at their place. He walked in silence till we reached out room and got in, locking the door and finally letting me go but his arms still on my waist

"Are you still angry"

"I'm actually very pissed, but you can say I'm angry" His body tensed for a second and relaxed, his arms firm on my waist.

"I need you to understand that all I want is to keep you safe amar" I pulled away and cradled his face in my arms, his face etched in pain. He's been blaming himself for my accident ever since that day while I'm here planning an escape.

"Bruce, do you trust me?"

Bruce frowned and said, "What kind of question is that? Of course I trust you. Why do you ask?"

"If you did trust me you'd let me leave" His face darkened and I sighed, pulling away from him. So much for reasoning with a mafia lord.

"You can leave the mansion"

My mouth opened in a silent gasp and I turned to look at him, the man who said he'd never let me leave the mansion finally said yes.

"What's the catch?" Because I know this man would never let me leave alone. I doubt he'd let Lucas go with me after the accident, and I'm not looking forward to 5 burly guys with me wherever I go. He could give me a gun to protect myself but that might not happen. Maybe I could–

"Lucas and Kyle will be with you"

"That's it?" He arched an eyebrow and gave my body a once over, intense eyes raking over me. I had half a mind he wanted to eat me up

"That's it" he smiled and I think my heart skipped a beat.

I walked over to him and placed a small kiss on his cheek. His arms went around my waist and pulled me closer, a small smirk on his lips.

"Thanks for trusting me"
