Charleston

A man comes in for Pope asking to see him, he brings him outside and me and the others just look at each other if they know what's happening, once pope came back in he looked, scared? Or stressed out? Just something but he showed us the wheat symbol on the letter, like the one on the gold. "Is the wheat symbol?" Kie said, "yeah" pope replied, "oh my gosh!" I said, "What's the f- .. -fu- fu- fudge" JJ said, as some of the other classmates laughed. Later we speed walked into the library and Pope said, "okay so, the guy from the scholarship committee, take a look at this!" He hands JJ the letter, he takes a second, "out loud" I say, "I can't read cursive" he says, kie gives him a look and then takes the letter and reads it, the letter says that they can prove John b's innocence, and that he comes and meets with them in person. In Charleston at 8pm, 27 king street., tonight. We all started to talk because Charleston is a long way and if we go we'd have to leave like right now. "I have a free period." Kie says. " material evidence, what does the even mean?" JJ whispers, "it means he can clear John b!" "Oh, shit! Then we're going to Charleston!" "I gotta tell my mom. Look, if we get it this time, we are not giving it to Shoupe" "yeah no duh." Pope was searching on the computer, saying who ever limberly that they could be related to the captain of the Royal merchant." We all Exchange looks.

Me and the boys were outside my kies house, she was trying to convince them to let her go, we could hear them, her mom was talking about us like we're some low life drug dealers making money from the streets, she started to walk off and defend us, we could hear her saying something about some boarding school, she then came to the car and JJ opened it up, "it's good to see you Mrs. And Mr. Carrera," JJ said, then her mom said "if you wants to go, go but if you don't come back at a proper time, then don't come back at all!" She looked hurt by her words. Shit, I would be too if that was my mom. "She's bluffing" i say. I was sitting beside Pope and Kiara was next to me and JJ was sitting on the other side of her. "This shit would be so much easier without parents." "For real." I say. We then drove off.

We were on the Ferris and me and kie were talking, we were sitting in the truck up against the back side and JJ and Pope were talking but there inside the truck. "My parents are so paranoid of me being a Pogue like it's the worst thing that could ever happen." "That's stupid, and the fact that their trying to force you to go to a boarding school" "I know right, like what are they so afraid of? The JJ stuck his head out the window and handed us a joint, we lit it up and smoked it together, JJ went back to talking with Pope and rolled up the window.
The got out and then sat with us, "hey kie, have you tried to hit John b back on that number yet?" Pope said, "like 20 million times," "that's quite a lot of times" JJ said. "Some random lady at a hotel keeps answering." "Well until we heard from them we got to try and clear his name, and right now this letter is out best bet." "Right, stay on task, that's why I love ya Pope." Kie offered him the joint, "what Pope are you gonna be today?" He decided saying he wanted to focus, "good Pope, boring Pope." She then sat back down with me and JJ and we started to talk and laugh.
Later on,
We made it to Charleston at last, kie was saying that the letter didn't make sense even though she read it over and over again, "I mean the Limberly's own like half of Charleston, what are the kook kings of Charleston know about a murder on Kildare island?" "Why you specifically? That's the other creepy thing," JJ said, "yeah, come alone? That's hella sus" I say, "I was think the same thing because-" he got cut off when the engine started to smoke, "what's is that?!" Kie said, "that is a lot of smoke!" I say, JJ started to cough "pope! I got sensitive lungs man!" "Okay I'm pulling over!" Pope yelled, and then we were yelling at him to slow down as he tried to do so one of the steel cord pops off, we all got out, of the truck and I ran over towards kie as I could tell she was stressed out. "Uhh, plan b, we go do public transportation, hitchhike, rent bike?" "Yeah, it's the radiator," JJ said to Pope, "my dads gone kill me!" "Yeah, he might."

We got the car fix, I was with Pope when we were at the car looking at it, finding a way to fix it, I looked back at kie, looked like she was having a serious-ish conversation with JJ, wondering what that was about.

"It's not all bad, I mean look at them over there, they would do anything for us, that's a Pogue if ive ever seen one, and Hailey, kie, don't let her go, you guys obviously have feelings for each other, shoot your shot!" I chuckled, "yeah, maybe.."
Later on it was already late, it was supper dark out so we were camping out for the night, JJ on beside the back side and pope was left side of the truck and Hailey was in the middle of us but she was closer to me, "goodnight" Pope said, "night" "goodnight!" "Nightt" we all said, the others were fast asleep and me and Hailey were facing each other, I pulled her closer to me, our foreheads were touching, it felt so comforting, "goodnight, Hailey" I whispered, "goodnight, Kiara" she whispered back.
