Been writing some 20 years. My stories are usually high concept for a kid written for adults, and I don't just mean bumping uglies. Genres are usually fantasy or fantasy adjacent.
As a reader, I want plots with consequences and characters who make real choices. I want to believe in the world I'm reading and see a story with focused themes. As for the genre, I don't know, but it should be focused.
