Riley Marini is a junior at Bishop Gallagher School. She considers her life to be relatively normal, with some exceptions, like her crazy cousin or her slightly-less-than-normal classmates. But overall, she has a near-perfect life. She lives in Le Lac Vue, a wealthy little suburb off of Detroit, in a large house only five minutes away from her school and twenty-five minutes away from the West Side of Detroit. Despite this closeness to one of the nation’s most notorious cities, almost all of the residents of the city of Le Lac Vue, on Lake St. Clair, don boat shoes and polo shirts as they set sail on their yachts, indifferent to the troubles of the city that lies so near them. And Riley is very much a part of this whole community and doesn’t know life any different… Until someone steps into her life, and introduces her to a world that she never knew existed, even though it lies only a few miles from the comforts of her own home, from where she has lived for the last seventeen years of her life. Kidnapped by a gang, Riley finds herself thrown into an existence she didn't think was possible...but it's all too real, and once she's in it, she can't go back. And then something happens that changes her mind forever.
