"You're safe," I assured her while lifting the heavy hair from her neck and moving it over her right shoulder. "I would never let anyone hurt you." My lips moved against her bare neck, and slowly, she eased herself back against my chest. I kissed down the length of her neck, tugging aside the strap of her top and vest. She sighed and her hands came up to hold my arm which wrapped over her chest and held her to me. "We can't," she breathed. "Why not?" "Because..." she struggled to speak. "You're Ruthenium..." "And you're Berkelium," I finished her sentence for her. My arm across her chest released her shoulder and moved to hold her around the ribs. Beneath my palm, I felt her ribs rise and fall in big motions as she breathed long and deep in an attempt to keep calm. "I'm staying here," she moaned as I kissed behind her ear. "And I'm going back to Ruthenium," I confirmed, ignoring the ache in my chest. "So, then... We shouldn't." "We should." "Dawson," she whined breathlessly. "Keeley," I spoke gently in her ear, my arms tightening around her. "Let me love you." ___ Book Two of the Unconditional Submission series.
